According to the Department of Justice, multiple defendants were sentenced for their roles in an international alien smuggling, asylum fraud, and money laundering conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors announced prison sentences for five Cuban nationals and one U.S. citizen involved in a multimillion-dollar transnational alien smuggling and asylum fraud ring.
According to the Department of Justice, prosecutors said the defendants operated an alien smuggling organization that induced thousands of Cuban aliens to enter the country illegally using fraudulent visa waivers and bogus asylum paperwork. Prosecutors stated that the enterprise laundered more than $22 million in illicit proceeds through various shell companies between 2021 and 2025. Following their previous guilty pleas, the individuals received prison sentences ranging from two to four years for their roles in the conspiracy. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation targeted organizations exploiting immigration processes for financial gain.
The case was supported and prosecuted by Joint Task Force Alpha. Federal authorities continue to investigate related aspects of the transnational criminal network.
