Nintendo has scheduled separate September presentations for The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary and for a broader slate of upcoming Switch 2 games.
Nintendo has scheduled two September broadcasts, separating a Zelda anniversary presentation from a broader Nintendo Direct focused on winter games for Switch 2 and Switch.
Nintendo is giving fans two distinct dates to watch next week instead of combining its September news into one presentation. The company has announced The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct for September 8, followed by Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026 on September 9. The split gives the Zelda milestone its own program before Nintendo turns to a wider games presentation.
The first event is being presented under the 40th-anniversary banner for The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo's announcement identifies the presentation by that title, but does not provide a confirmed program of individual game announcements in the material released so far. That distinction matters: a commemorative broadcast can draw intense speculation, while the official description establishes the event rather than a list of unannounced products.
Nintendo has given more shape to the September 9 presentation. Its Japanese announcement says the 45-minute broadcast will focus mainly on Nintendo Switch 2 software scheduled for release this winter. The event is set for 7 a.m. Pacific time, or 10 a.m. Eastern, and it will be delivered as a prerecorded presentation.
The two-day schedule also separates two different audiences without making them compete for the same show. Zelda followers get a dedicated anniversary event on Tuesday, while the general Direct the next day is positioned around the company's broader software calendar. Reports on the announcement describe the broadcasts as separate presentations, not one continuous program.
For Nintendo, the format creates room to celebrate one of its defining series while keeping its wider Switch and Switch 2 lineup in view. It also gives the company a controlled way to set expectations before the holiday season. What will actually be announced, however, remains unknown until the presentations air, and fans should treat game, hardware and release-date predictions as speculation until Nintendo confirms them.
The immediate news is the schedule, not a new game reveal. Nintendo has put two broadcasts on the calendar for September 8 and 9, with a Zelda anniversary program followed by a wider Direct. The presentations themselves will determine whether the week produces major product news or simply a clearer look at previously announced releases.
